Way to go, Scott

I saw this picture on the Sartorialist today and thought "Finally, that is a look after my own heart." Really, this is just perfect. Fair Ilse. Blazer. Duffle coat. Tortoise glasses. No socks. Manly looking tote bag. Perfect.

This picture was apparently taken in Florence, but based on the guy's red hair and the fact that he isn't dressed like a moron, he must be from another country.

I got to the last sentence and just about fell off of my chair with laughter. Nice one. The sockless winter look is for the young. I like the glasses and that Fair Isle. Great look.

I assume from your comments that you haven't ever been to Florence The majority of people I saw while during my stay were actually traditionally dressed during . If anything "the look", as you term it was based on tweed sportcoats and other traditional attire. I agree with you that this individual looks as if he may possibly be from the far reaches northern europe, but you never know. It's never wise to judge a book by it's cover. Your blog exudes new south superficiality and latent homosexuality. Try and get out of SC and GA once in a while. Maybe you can learn something.

Whoa Trip, I think you just got schooled.(?)

Are you assuming that the ginger Weasley isn't a native Fiat because his garments fail to depict classic, Italian statuary, aligned appropriately (anatomically speaking)? Because the last time I was in Firenze, I would say that, while the look was pretty wide spread, not all of the Italians were sporting the trend. Whats more, I was there in late spring/early summer. There is a chance that they all turn into waspy trads in the winter months. You never can be too sure. This guy could still have a summer share on the Jersey Shore.

Think before you stereotype, Trip. You don’t want to anger any of your adoring fans.

Anon,

You are correct in that I have never been to Florence, and I was primarily basing my impressions upon the scores (hundreds?) or photos of Italians and French that Scott Schuman has posted on The Sartorialist. I had assumed that this was a pretty typical representation of the clothing of the people of those countries, but perhaps I was wrong.

"Your blog exudes new south superficiality and latent homosexuality." Um, excuse me? I assure you there is no homosexuality being exuded here. Regarding getting out of the South, I'd rather not in the event that I might run across more people than you.

NEW SOUTH SUPERFICIALITY! EXCUSE ME!...just because someone is from the South does not mean that they are superficial or isolated. Just because Trip made an assumption, does not mean that he is wrong. I'd rather stay in the South also. You never know who you might run into when you leave.

I may start blogging again, with an emphasis on "new south superficiality and latent homosexuality". That's a good title, too.

Anon makes a good point about the 'reality' of dressing in Italy and then spoils it with a personal attack.

But to pick up on the point, I was shocked when I first visited Florence (at age 38: you can be forgiven, Trip, for not having made it there yet!), and found that the de rigeur outfit for men was the navy blazer, grey flannels, and brown or even british tan shoes.

Anons comments regarding "Latent homosexuality" was quite funny. But I have to say Tripper is dead on with his assessment this time.
The Guido look is very popular over there and all over the world for that matter.

Also, Anon's yankee arrogance is really sad overall. But again, he/she made me laugh with the gay joke. (Not that anything is wrong with being gay or writing in gay way) I would suggest anon needs to spend some time in the South (God's country). Someone might beat the yankee out of him/her.

I totally agree -- it's really such a perfect look. Love his sort pants and no socks. A+

You guys are pretty hilarious. I like the look, but it's a little Harry Potter, no?

My Dad's uncle Ralph (ne. Rafaelo) was from northern Italy. His hair was the color of a ripe pumpkin when he was young.

This dude looks alright, but personally I've had it with the no-socks-and-dress-shoes thing. Sockless feet belong in topsiders in the summer. If it's cold enough for the duffel coat, it's cold enough fro socks.
