Fall is my favorite season for multiple reasons, but fall clothing is certainly not the least of these reasons. Chief amongst this clothing are my Barbour jackets. If you don't know about Barbour jackets, for shame. And if you know about them and do not own one, I will simply say, without hyperbole, your wardrobe is not complete. These are some of the most versatile, durable, hard-wearing, good-looking garments that have been made. And because they can last 20+ years, they are simply a great a clothing investment.
I already own a Beaufort and Bedale (which is sorely in need of patching and rewaxing), however, this evening I found myself perusing the Barbour website, looking for nothing in particular. Then, I came across the Cowen Commando. I have not seen this jacket before, but I really like it. According to the Barbour website it is from a "historic British Army pattern" and I really like the cinched waist. I don't know if I'll try to get my hands on one this year, but I may put it on the long term wish list. Below are some pictures, but the best picture, in my opinion, is on the Barbour website.

A quick note. Although I have indicated before how attractive I find women in Land Rovers, women in Barbour jackets are simply on a whole 'nother level. Maybe I just have a thing for women in British-made goods...

I love Barbour too.
I have the cowen commando, but rarely wear it. The seams don't match the colour of the rest of the jacket, its not wery well put together, and just feels flimsy. If you already have a beaufort and bedale, im sure you'll be disappointed too.
Whats to say the Cowen is a great jacket, I've a Border,a Westmoorland, a Dunmore and a Cowen,my favorite is the Cowen.
This jacket comes in a number of weights and colours, mines a heavy weight in brown, it's scruffy but in a smart way if that makes sense equally at home in the woods, or wandering round the more upmarket towns of the Yorkshire dales. I've had the Border almost 20 years and it's taken a right kicking, I expect the Cowen to last longer, be worn more often and put up with at least the same level of abuse, when all's said and done some things just get better with age...
this is true of ANY Barbour Wax jacket.

I have the Cowen Comamando jacket...Bought it in 2006 at Heathrow Airport.
It's been around the world with me - I love it.
Going in for its first professional service this year, after 4 years! I've re-waxed it 3 times, but I want to get the sleeves taken out a bit.
I have had my Cowen Comando for two years now and it has been subject to a lot of abuse and extremely foul weather. It has never let me down. Had it re-waxed recently and it is good as new. Now that the winter is setting in i will never leave home without it. Equally at home in the outdoors as is in the office or in the city....
